THE CLIP
But Hasan called a chatter a “bloodthirsty, violent pig-dog.”
The insult is real; the viral version turns an argument with one chatter into a claim about Jews.
“Hasan called Jews pig-dogs for objecting to Hamas.”
WHAT THE RECORD SHOWS
The phrase is real. In the October 11, 2023 exchange, Hasan directed the insult at one chat user during an argument about October 7, Gaza, and the Israeli occupation. The clip does not show Hasan addressing Jews as a group. 'Pig-dog' is a general insult with class, anti-authority, and political uses, not a reference to Jewish identity.
The phrase is authentic. The record shows a personal political insult aimed at one chatter, not a statement about Jews as a group.
THE SURROUNDING RECORD
The clip comes from an October 11, 2023 livestream, days after Hamas's attack and Israel's declaration of war. A viewer in chat wrote that the killing of people at a music festival should not have happened. Hasan agreed that civilians did not deserve to be killed. He immediately argued that the attack did not occur in a vacuum and discussed the blockade, occupation, living conditions in Gaza, and the political choices that he believed made an armed uprising predictable.
The exchange then became personal. Hasan told the viewer that his goal was solutions while the viewer's goal was the continuation of violence. He accused the person of wanting Palestinians executed so that Gaza could be rebuilt for Israeli tourism, then called the chatter a 'baying pig' and a 'bloodthirsty, violent pig-dog.' In the full sequence, the insult is directed at the person in chat who Hasan says is advocating mass violence. The target is not a named Jewish population or Jews as a group.
The chatter is identified only by a username, not by religion, ethnicity, or citizenship. The exchange concerned Israel, Palestinians, Hamas, and the political meaning of the October 7 attack.
The German cognate 'Schweinehund' is documented as a general coarse insult meaning a contemptible person, with an origin connected to hunting and later use as student slang. Hasan told The New Republic, “I’ve never heard that be referred to Jewish people.” This footage does not show Hasan addressing Jews as a group or using the phrase as a reference to Jewish identity.
There are also direct receipts showing Hasan used 'pig-dog' and close variants outside this October 2023 exchange. On April 5, 2022, while discussing Amazon labor organizing and his own privilege, he sarcastically described himself as an 'out-of-touch, bourgeois capitalist pig dog.' On August 10, 2022, during a segment about corporations and food prices involving CEO John Catsimatidis, he used 'capitalist pig dog' as an anti-corporate insult. On June 3, 2022, while reacting to an NRA-conference video, he used 'bourgeois pig dog' for a hypothetical former fan. These examples show a broader class and political insult vocabulary.
The phrase also has an ordinary English insult history. It appears in Shrek 2 (2004), where Puss in Boots calls the arresting knights 'capitalist pig dogs.' The words are not inherently a reference to Jewish identity.
Hasan used the phrase against one chatter during a heated argument about October 7 and Gaza. The broader receipts show that 'pig-dog' is a general insult with class and political uses.
