THE CLIP

But Hasan said landlords should be killed.

The violent words are real; the viral version leaves out the friend, the joke framing, and Hasan's later explanation.

THE VIRAL CLAIM

“Hasan said: ‘Kill them, murder them, let the streets soak in their red capitalist blood.’”

WHAT THE RECORD SHOWS

The words are authentic. The clip records a conversation about property owners who keep homes off the rental market, where Hasan used violent, hyperbolic language. In a later ABC interview, he said the exchange was with a landlord friend, described the statement as insincere LARPing, and said it was not a policy he advocated.

The words are real; Hasan later described them as hyperbolic, insincere role-play rather than a policy proposal.

THE SURROUNDING RECORD

The short clip is real. A guest is discussing property owners who have homes but choose not to rent them, and Hasan replies: 'Yeah, kill them all those motherfuckers and murder those motherfuckers in the street, let the streets soak in their red capitalist blood.' A circulating mirror presents the exchange as a standalone clip, without the rest of the conversation.

The clearest full-context response comes from ABC Australia's September 17, 2025 7.30 interview. The interviewer read the quote back to Hasan and asked whether that kind of language contributes to violent discourse. Hasan acknowledged saying it. He said it came from a conversation with a landlord friend, called it hyperbolic and 'not meant to be sincere,' and described it as LARPing. He said the clip was from 2018 or 2019; the archive records the date as 2018–2019.

A later transcript of Hasan revisiting the clip includes the qualifier 'in a video game' after the blood quote.
